Is humidity really a problem?
When it comes to our indoors, there is indeed something called optimal or ideal humidity. In summers this ranges between 50% to 60%, whereas in winters humidity levels of 30% to 40% are considered ideal from the point of comfort. Lack of, or excess of humidity is also a health risk.
According to Mayo Clinic, many people regularly face respiratory problems in the form of allergies and asthma flare-ups because of both lower-than-ideal and higher-than-ideal humidity. In fact, the latter creates additional problems as higher humidity not only makes the indoors feel stuffy, but results in deposition of fungus and mould on walls and furniture surfaces. This is especially true of unventilated areas such as basements and closets. So depending on where you live, yes, high or low humidity can mean trouble.
